Dogs never cease to amaze me.

As a rule of thumb, my old senior English Bulldog, Lil Roy, (who incidentally come from HeavenSent Bulldog Rescue-Bless Them!) just does not like it outside except to do his business and hurry right back into the house. That is just the way he is...

Well today it is a toasty 86 degrees, took Lil Roy along out so I could hang up a few items of laundry, doesn't the little stinker plop down on the hot cement patio and will not move out of the blazing sun, no matter how I coax him.

The little guy decided after freezing his buns off all winter he is going to get a gosh darn good sunbath today...and he did!

I left him out for approximately 10 minutes which I figured was long enough then bribed him back in with "cookies"...

My boxers who are reverse brindle (almost black) have the sense to stay in the shade of the yard under the maple tree because they immediately heat up with their dark coats. Of course they use the doggie door. Roy absolutely refuses to do so. He wants door service when he wants it! Lil Roy is one character, just love him to death! How about your guys? Are they liking this warm summery weather?

Let me know, please leave a comment and tell me about your guys!

Houdini?

I do not know about your dogs, but my female boxer, Diva is Harry Houdini reincarnated. She is the sweetest petite little girl. But boy, does she like to get out of the fenced in yard ,any way possible.

We have a great fenced in yard, split rail fence with vinyl coated wire on the inside so the dogs can see through the fence to the outside world.

Well Diva discovered early on the the vinyl fence is fair game for her to bend and belly-crawl right underneath. This has become her favorite game. My Aunt Emma, bless her heart, (and with my good fortune!) lives right across the street and has a good view of my yard. She and my Uncle Lee enjoy watching my two boxers playing and running around the yard. My Aunt Emma is usually the one that calls me on the phone to tell me my little girl got out again. Diva is a Momma-baby, so she does not run away, just "hangs around" the outside of the fence while my frantic male, Mack, is trying to figure out how to get her back in! We usually just holler out the door, "In the house!" she will run right to the front door to be left in wearing the biggest boxer smirk that can sit on her sweet little face, "Ahh, see what I can do?!"

My husband has had to reinforce the bottom of the fence at multiple places, but she keeps making new escape hatches.

This afternoon while working on my website the phone rang, and sure enough it was Aunt Emma. To my surprise she told me BOTH my boxers were out! WHAT the heck? How could that be? Mack is much too bulky to crawl under the fence.

I went out and they were "visiting" my next door neighbor. They love her little boy Giovanni.
I was astounded, till I discovered my husband ,who worked outside all day in the yard yesterday, had accidently forgotten to lock the gate; consequently our dear nosey dogs discovered this, and left themselves out!

So that was my little bit of excitement for a Sunday afternoon....

Would love to hear about your pet's antics. Please feel free to post and share with us!

Intro to My Fur Family

Hello,
The Copper Canine is all about our best friend, the dog, and our relationship with him.I have three canine units of my own. They are my constant companions. And of course the apples of my eye, all three. They surely make you laugh with their doggie antics.

Especially if you know the Boxer breed. We have two beautiful reverse brindle boxers.
Mack ,our big male, hails from South Carolina from an excellent breeder, Lisa Price who has Price's Boxers. She has really beautiful, healthy dogs.

And our petite little Miss Diva, comes to us all the way from Clatskanie, Oregon from Kathy Fine-Saunders of Mermysta Boxers and So Special Cockers Kennel. Kathy does DNA testing with all her dogs, so you know you will get a healthy dog from her. If anyone is interested I can pass along her phone number to you....just email me...

Speaking of boxers, I am affiliated with a wonderful, hardworking, dedicated rescue group who will go miles out of their way to help a boxer in need. They serve these dogs way beyond the normal measures. They go the extra mile.

Kudos to Adopt A Boxer Rescue.
Please take the time to visit their website and see if there is anyway you might help. They are having their 2nd Annual Craft and Flea Market -proceeds to benefit Adopt A Boxer Rescue at Rose Tree Park in Media PA on Sat. May 9, 2009 from 8 AM till 3 PM.
If you get in the area, they are having FUN, FOOD, VENDORS, and DOG ACTIVITIES. Please look them up!

And finally we have our English Bulldog,Lil Roy, our senior citizen, at the age of 9 who is a rescue from HeavenSent Bulldog Rescue out of Medford ,NJ . These great people work real hard rescuing Bulldogs, and placing them in loving homes in NJ, DE, PA ,and MD. Please visit their website and check them out. If you are not in their area, I am sure they would gladly direct you to a rescue closer to your home.

Please remember ANY donation you make to a rescue is tax deductible!

I would love to hear from all of you doggie and kitty parents out there. Tell me about your fur family ,and the funny things they do to make you laugh. They enrich our lives so much with their unconditional love, and their presence. I could not imagine my life without a dog or kitty cat for company.

Who else loves you no matter how you look, no matter how grouchy
you wake up , and whether you are rich or poor?

Do not forget to give your fur children a walk and hugs and kisses;they deserve them.

Hope to hear from you real soon. Have a great weekend!

From our home to yours, lots of slurpy kisses,
The Copper Canine
